Day 1 : Arriving in South Norfolk by car or train you have options to explore the historic market town of Diss, visit the famous Gardens at Bressingham or seek out the giant Raft Spider at Lopham Fen nature reserve. Overnight in a historic Coaching Inn or high quality restaurant with rooms.
Day 2 : Cycling along the beautiful Waveney Valley towards the broadland towns of Bungay and Beccles you pass ancient water meadows, quaint villages, preserved windmills and a even a couple of fascinating Museums. Lunch can be taken in the thriving market town of Harleston or in one of the many country pubs on route. Arriving in Beccles or Bungay you can hire a canoe or motor boat for a few hours before arriving at a very high standard Bed & Breakfast or small friendly hotel.
Day 3 : Heading North to cross the River Yare on the tiny 2-car ferry At Reedham you can visit the beautiful walled gardens at Raveningham before heading towards Ranworth Broad with it’s Nature reserve, Wildlife Centre and river trips. (The more energetic can climb the spiral staircase of St Helens Chuch for a fantastic view of the River Bure and it’s nearby Broads). Before your overnight stop near Wroxham you can visit the Wolf Brewery at Woodbastwick, the Radar Museum at Horning or simply enjoy the sights and sounds of this wonderful wetland area.
Day 4 : Take time to explore Wroxham and Coltishall, two small towns in the centre of the Broads or hire a launch on the River Bure for half a day. In the afternoon take your bike on the miniature railway to Aylsham or cycle the off-road route that follows the track for 9 miles. Once in Aylsham you can visit Blickling Hall, a magnificent Jacobean House complete with 125ft Gallery, Rare Book Collection and Anne Boleyn’s headless ghost ! Overnight stop in this ancient Market Town staying in either a small Country Inn or top quality Bed & Breakfast.
Day 5 : Complete the trip on the dedicated off-road cycle route that follows the valley of the River Wensum into Norwich. Take a couple of hours to visit the magnificent 11th Century Cathedral or Norman Castle before taking the short train ride back to our base in Diss. |
