Discover Constable Country : 3 nights


4 night option readily available - just call

choose 18 or 20 mile route options available each day (approx).

Day 1 : Arriving by Car or Train check-in at a modern country house hotel near Needham Market. Options to visit the amazing Museum of East Anglian Life at Stowmarket with it’s rare breeds, preserved buildings and 70 acres of riverside walks; alternatively you can visit the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary at Stoneham and view the fantastic work of this wonderful charity.

Day 2 : Heading south from your hotel you cycle through several pretty villages before passing ‘Jimmys Farm’ – lot’s to see and do for visitors of all ages. A few more miles to Alton Water with its rare bird life and nature reserve. Options to cycle round the lake on the dedicated cycle path to reach the Visitor Centre and Café. In the afternoon head for East Bergholt and Flatford Mill, hire a rowing boat on the Stour, take a guided Constable Tour or simply enjoy the wonderful location, scene of the famous Hay Wain. Overnight stay nearby in the ancient village of Dedham.

Day 3 : Today you cycle West through some beautiful Suffolk river valleys, opportunities to visit the Vineyard and Nature Trail at Boxted or cycle further North to the mediaeval wool town of Hadleigh with its preserved buildings and Guildhall. In the afternoon head for Sudbury for a mini cruise on the River Stour or visit the Thomas Gainsborough Museum to view the life and works of another great Suffolk painter. Overnight stay in Sudbury or the nearby village of Lavenham with its famous timbered buildings and Guildhall – now a wonderful National Trust Museum.

Day 4 : Before turning back towards Needham Market, you can experience the Elizabethan splendour of Melford Hall or relax in the magnificent gardens of Kentwell Hall. A leisurely afternoon ride through quiet countryside brings you back to your starting hotel.

(If you take the 4-night option, you will visit Bury St Edmunds with its Historic Buildings, Famous Abbey, Beautiful Parks and Brewery Taster Tours !).
